Water Distribution

The Water Distribution division operates and maintains the City’s water distribution system to provide customers with a reliable source of water for residential, commercial and industrial consumption and for fire protection. The division administers a backflow prevention program, leak detection and repair program, hydrant and valve maintenance program, and a system flushing in addition to making taps for new customers. The Utility Line Supervisor oversees the Water Distribution and Sewer Collection divisions. The division provides 24-hour trouble service.

Water Treatment Plant

The Water Treatment Plant division operates and maintains the city’s four million gallon per day surface water treatment plant and well system. The division is responsible for producing potable water which meets the safe standards and criteria established by the Environmental Protection Agency and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. The division currently produces between 2.0 and 2.5 million gallons per day. The Utility Plant Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the operation of the water treatment plant and the wastewater treatment plant. The division maintains on-call service to oversee 24-hour plant operations.

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Wastewater Treatment Plant division is responsible for operation and maintenance of the city’s wastewater treatment plant and sewage lift stations. The plant is operated in compliance with all Environmental Protection Agency and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control regulations to ensure that all effluent discharged into Crooked Creek meets permit limits. The division also administers a sewer use and industrial pretreatment ordinance and monitors all industrial waste discharged into the system. An upgrade and expansion of the wastewater treatment plant to a design capacity of 3.9 millions per day was completed in 1995. The division currently treats between 2.0 and 2.5 million gallons per day. The division maintains on-call status to oversee 24-hour plant operations.
